Policies & Procedures
Tardy Policy
College and Career High School values every instructional minute and learning opportunity. Missed class time undermines our mission of Dual Graduation. We believe that being late to class is disrespectful to the teacher, students, and overall learning environment. The following TARDY POLICY will be in place for the 2026-2027 academic year:
● All students who arrive tardy must check in through the front office. Once they receive a TARDY PASS from office staff, they will be directed to see an ADMINISTRATOR FOR A SIGNATURE. Students will then proceed to class. Tardy passes without an administrator signature will not be honored by classroom teachers.
● Once a student has been tardy 3 times to a class, administration will conference with the student to determine strategies for improved timeliness.
● Students with 5 or more tardies in a class will be assigned to LUNCH DETENTION. During lunch detention, students will be required to work on classwork while they eat.
● Once a student has been tardy to a single classroom 10 or more times, a parent/student conference will be held to determine next steps and offer support where needed.
● If a parent/student conference does not result in improved timeliness, the student may be placed on an attendance contract.
All students are valued at CCHS and we understand that extenuating circumstances occur from time to time. Our intent is to address repetitive behaviors impacting a student’s ability to be successful.
Costs/Materials
CNM pays college tuition and registration fees for high school students. APS provides textbooks for both high school and CNM courses.
However, students are responsible for additional fees required for some degree/certificate plans, such as tools, uniforms, or software. The CNM Foundation can assist students with a financial need to help pay for course supplies, uniforms, and/or fees that are required by certain CNM courses.
CNM Textbook
CNM textbooks will be provided at no cost by APS. Dual credit students are not required to purchase textbooks for their CNM classes.
The general procedure is for students to notify APS of which courses they are taking and then scheduling a time to pick up their textbooks at an APS warehouse located near the CNM campus. Textbooks must be returned at the end of the semester.
APS and CNM publish detailed instructions each semester, and those instructions will be posted on the Textbook Center for APS Dual Credit Students web site.
APS Textbooks
All high school textbooks are issued through content area teachers. The high school textbooks must be returned to the content area teachers by the end of the last day of the term. Students who do not return textbooks will be charged the replacement cost of the book.
Lost/Damaged Textbooks
All textbooks, including your college textbooks, are the property of the State of New Mexico and are loaned to students with the expectation that they will be used appropriately, treated with care, and returned in good condition. Charges will be assessed for lost or damaged books. Students will be informed of the materials they have checked out and of any fines, fees, or other charges they have incurred.
Chromebooks
All CCHS students are provided a Chromebook for the duration of their enrollment at CCHS to support high school and college learning environments. Students must comply with the Computer Use Contract signed at the beginning of the year and the APS Student Technology Acceptable Use Policy
Inclement Weather Procedures
In the event that APS and CNM Main Campus differ, CCHS follows the CNM Main Campus delays and cancellations.
CCHS follows the inclement weather policy for CNM, not APS. If APS is on a two-hour delay, it does not necessarily mean that CCHS will also follow. Only if CNM is also on a two hour delay would CCHS be impacted. Inclement weather policy is as follows: CNM two-hour delay would mean a start time of 10:00am, if a student has CNM classes that begin at 10:00am or later they would attend CNM. All 9th grade students and high school classes will begin at 10:50/ 3rd period. Lunch served as normal, no breakfast available. Because CNM has a policy that no one can be on campus until sidewalks and stairs are salted and cleared, CCHS students may not be on campus until 10:00am.
Policies and Procedures for Inclement Weather for Both CCHS and CNM
If the CNM District is affected by snow or icy conditions in the weeks and months ahead, making travel dangerous, please remember the most timely ways to receive information on whether CNM has been closed or is on an abbreviated schedule is the “AttentionCNM” emergency text messaging system, the CNM weather line at 224-4SNO (4766) and the CNM website. The AttentionCNM emergency text system is the fastest way to receive notifications. Announcements related to weather will also be made on local television stations. For info on how an abbreviated schedule due to weather – such as a two-hour delay – affects classes go to cnm.edu/weather.
Ensure Your Contact Info Is Correct for Emergency Texts
Please make sure your contact information is correct by logging in to myCNM. On the Welcome page, look for the “AttentionCNM” logo in the lower right corner and click on “Please Update Your Cell Phone Number for Emergency Texts.” You can enter several cell phone numbers. Emails will also be sent to all CNM email accounts.
How a Two-Hour Delay Affects CCHS Classes
- When a two-hour delay is announced for CNM and CCHS, the first CCHS class that will be held that day is 3rd period, which starts at 10:50am. Because CNM has a policy that no one can be on campus until sidewalks and stairs are salted and cleared, CCHS students may not be on campus until 10:00am.
How a Two-Hour Delay Affects CNM Main Campus Classes
- When operating on a two-hour delay, CNM will be closed until 10:00am. All classes scheduled to end before the announced opening time will not meet. If the college is not opening until 10:00am, any class that ends before 10:00am will not meet.
- Classes with a start time prior to 10:00am that conclude less than 45 minutes beyond 10:00am will not meet. So, any class scheduled to end at 10:45am or earlier will not meet.
- Classes with start times before 10:00am that are normally scheduled to extend 45 minutes or more beyond the announced opening time will meet at 10:00am. and dismiss at the normally scheduled ending time. So, when the college opens at 10:00am, and a student had a class that began before 10:00am and ends later than 10:45am, the student should arrive for that class at 10:00am.
- Classes that are scheduled to begin after 10:00am will meet as usual. For example, if a student has a class that begins at 11:00am, a student should attend the 11:00am class at the normal time. The syllabus for classes that are not held at CNM facilities (high schools, UNM, clinical sites) will provide guidance for dealing with weather at these sites.
