CCHS Counseling Department

Services provided:

Guidance and Counseling services are provided by a licensed mental health professional. Students, parents, teachers, and staff may consult with the counselor on a confidential basis. If a student is not feeling happy or successful at school, the counselor may be of help.

  • Consulting with community members
  • Individual counseling sessions with students upon referral
  • Small group counseling
  • Classroom guidance lessons at teacher request
  • Coordinate parent-teacher conferences for CCHS classes. 

  • Connect students and families to APS resources including Clothing Bank and Title 1. 

  • Implement APS Safety Protocols on suicide, bullying, threat assessment, and CYFD. 

Meet the counselor to discuss any of the following:

When a student is referred for counseling services, the counselor will contact the parents/guardians before counseling sessions begin.

  • Friendships & Relationships
  • Family changes
  • Grief issues
  • Mistreatment
  • Mediation
  • Safety concerns (for yourself or others)

College and Career Readiness:

At the high school level students should plan to meet with their counselor at the beginning of each year to track their progress and readiness for continuing education. The counselor can provide help in the following areas:

  • Important dates for testing and scholarship applications
  • Information on scholarship resources
  • Transcripts
  • Credit Recovery
  • Internships
  • Tutoring resources
  • Track HS graduation requirements (e.g., transcript reviews, state-mandated exams, Next Step Plans) 

  • Schedule CCHS classes. 
  • Assist with registration and preparation of college entrance exams (PSAT, SAT, ACT).
  • Register students for APS eCADEMY and summer school classes.

Shared Services with the Academic Coach

  • Encourage students to complete CNM degree (and then transfer/enter career). 
  • Support students to attend post-secondary after HS.
    • FAFSA completion 
    • Scholarship application assistance 
    • Research of and application to non-CNM colleges 
  • Access textbooks for CNM classes through APS. 
  • Help students discern career/ academic interests. 
  • Provide support to students, including those in crisis. 
  • Communicate with parents about CNM and CCHS expectations, FERPA, and general information. 
  • Coordinate college prep events. 
  • Support student success.
